I’ve not done much running, how long does it take to train for the Great North Run?

There are lots of training programmes out there for beginners to help run a half marathon. Beginners can reasonably train for a half marathon in around 12 weeks.

Check out the beginner 12 week training plan here

What does the registration fee include?

  • Your place on the run organised by the Great Run Company
  • Access to post-run marquee with refreshments, massage tables and more!
  • Access to virtual training and support calls
  • Charity running vest
  • A dedicated page to collect donations and share your story

Is there an age restriction for participants?

All participants must be at least 16 years old.

Is there a minimum fundraising target?

We ask participants to raise a minimum of £300, however we understand times are difficult for everyone at the moment and we are hugely grateful to our supporters for taking on this challenge.

We have a dedicated events fundraiser who will be in regular contact to help you on your fundraising journey!

Your sponsorship will go towards supporting staff and patients who visit our hospitals across the Trust.

Can I raise sponsorship offline?

Get in touch and we can provide sponsorship forms as well as supplying you with collection tins and personalised posters for local shops and pubs.

Can I decide which hospital my money goes towards?

Yes – simply let us know if you have a specific hospital or department that you would like to support.

What happens once I've signed up?

Once you've registered, you will receive instructions about how to redeem your place. Once your place has been redeemed, you'll be able to set up a fundraising page to help you reach your target!

Is transport or accommodation provided?

We do not put on any transport or accommodation. More information about the race day will be provided once registered.

What happens if I register but can no longer take part?

Your registration fee is non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by The Great Run Company.

If you are no longer able to participate in the 2025 AJ Bell Great North Run and choose to withdraw, you have the option to defer your entry to guarantee you a place in the 2026 event.

To accept this place, you will need to re-register and pay the registration fee in full directly to The Great Run Company.
